Q: Will there be refs?
A: Yes. We are providing fields, refs, trophies to 1st-3rd place, and will have a medic onsite in case anything happens.
Q: What do teams need to provide?
A: You bring the players, make sure they have NFL FLAG flags along with a uniform, cleats, and mouth piece.
Q: How are teams being formed?
A: You control how you form your team. Caledonia is going to build an all-star team for each division that consists of players that play in our spring or fall leagues. Our goal is to reward and challenge the best players in our program to help it improve long-term. There will also be teams that have mostly kids from their league with one or two outside kids. I am also assuming there will be travel/all-star teams that consist of players that live all over the place but play together for flag. You can form your team however you please, but please make sure you follow the age rules. You can also have as few as 5 or as many as 10 players on your team.
Q: Why does pool play take place over three weeks?
A: We believe our best players need as many reps as possible against talent that is equal to or better than them. Let's face it, the regular season for flag leagues is not designed for that (or should not be). By extending pool play to three weeks with multiple games each week, all of our players will get plenty of reps to get better.
Q: Why is it so cheap to register?
A: Since we began discussing this with leagues, nearly all asked about the cost. It is $150 per team, which is way cheaper than other tournaments. Private donations and sponsorships will make this possible. We would rather bring tons of talented teams from across West Michigan to play our teams than try to make a profit on an all-star season. This could change in the future, but the priority here is exposing kids to competitive flag locally and frequently.
