If you watched the Pro Bowl, you know that flag football is similar to tackle but there are some important differences:

• 5 vs 5: each team plans with 5 players on the field at a time (12u and 14u are moving to 7v7 in the spring of 2025)
• No contact: players are ruled down when their flag is pulled or the ball hits the ground and there is no blocking allowed
• Smaller fields: fields are roughly 1/4 the size of a normal football field at 25 yards wide and 50 yards long (7v7 is played on a larger field)
• Fast paced: games consist of two 24 minute halves with a running clock
• Familiar scoring: scoring is similar to tackle football with touchdowns (6 points), extra points (1 point from the 5 yard line or 2 points from the 10 yard line), and safeties (2 points).
  

Those rules may seem quite different but it is a great way for new players to learn the fundamentals of the game without worrying about contact. It also provides tackle players with the opportunity to develop and play together in the off-season, and is especially valuable to offensive skill and defensive players. 

CYFA is excited to continue offering a spring season after the tremendous success in 2024. This year we are adding 7v7 for our 12u and 14u divisions. All divisions are co-ed, unless at least 32 girls sign up for a division. If that happens, we will form girl only teams and have our first ever girls only division! 

Divisions (birth year): 

• 6u (2018/2019)
• 8u (2016/2017)
• 10u (2014/2015)
• 12u (2012/2013) 
• 14u (2010/2011)

Schedule: all practices, games, and activities will happen on Sundays with specific times TBD

Season: the regular season will take place on  4/27, 5/4, 5/11, 5/18, 6/1, and 6/8 with the playoffs happening on 6/15 where the top teams in each division will compete for 1st through 3rd place trophies

Camp: this year we are offering an optional pre-season camp where players will learn and practice foundational skills to get ready for the season. These sessions will be led by Cal Select coaches and players, which is our competitive travel flag football program. Sessions will be on 3/16, 3/23, and 3/30 at MEF Fieldhouse. 6u will be 11-12, 8u from 12:30 to 1:30, and 10u from 2-3.
